What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as browser local storage and session storage, work in a comparable way. We use the word "cookies" for all of them here.
Necessary technologies
- cookie_consent (browser local storage): remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we don't ask on every visit. It stays until you change your choice or clear your browser data.
- Our hosting and security providers may use technologies needed to deliver the site securely and protect it from abuse.
Optional analytics and error-monitoring technologies
These only run in full when you accept analytics cookies, where consent is required:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google): measures visits and how people use the site. It commonly sets cookies whose names begin with
_ga. Before you choose, or if you decline, it may send limited cookieless requests in a consent-denied state and sets no analytics cookie. - Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft): helps us understand how pages are used. It commonly sets cookies such as
_clckand_clsk, and Microsoft may also use cookies on its own domains. Before you choose, or if you decline, it may operate in a restricted cookieless mode without setting its analytics cookies. - Our first-party analytics: records a small set of privacy-minimised business actions and keeps any campaign tags for the current visit in session storage. It only runs if you accept. See our privacy policy.
- Sentry error monitoring (Functional Software, Inc.) — helps us detect and diagnose technical website errors. Sentry only starts after you accept. In our current configuration it sets no cookies and uses no localStorage or sessionStorage. We minimise the technical information sent, filter URL query values and disable IP-address storage.
Third-party providers can change their cookie names, so we describe them by provider and purpose rather than as a permanent list.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer, or here:
Your choice is remembered on this browser. If you decline after accepting, our consent-based first-party analytics stops, full cookie-based Google Analytics and Clarity functionality stops, and we remove the Google Analytics and Clarity cookies stored on whatisvegan.co.uk that the site is able to access. Google Analytics and Clarity may continue limited cookieless processing in their consent-denied modes.
Browsers do not let one website delete cookies belonging to another company's domain. Any such cookies are not used for our site once you decline, and you can remove them in your browser settings.
